West Wildwood is governed by a three-member commission based upon the Walsh Act form of government. The commissioners are elected at large in non-partisan elections for four-year terms. Following the election, the commission elects one of the three members to serve as mayor. Every commissioner oversees a specific department. West Wildwood is served by the 2nd Congressional District and the 1st state legislative district. Students residing in West Wildwood are served by the Wildwood School District. The schools in Wildwood are: Glenwood Elementary (pre-kindergarten through fifth grade), Wildwood Middle (sixth through eighth grades), and Wildwood High School. Although the sales tax for New Jersey is 7%, eligible shops within West Wildwood offer 3% sales tax. West Wildwood is close in proximity to the events and boardwalk that Wildwood is known for. Wildwood is always hosting various activities including the two Beach Blast soccer tournaments in June and July, Friday evening fireworks over Morey's Piers from late June through Labor Day, Bike Weekend, Irish Weekend, and the like. But some people prefer the more laid-back feel of West Wildwood -- there are less crowds here and more peace. Perhaps that is why some choose to purchase property in West Wildwood.
